Purpose and description of the content of education:
During the module, students will learn about the principles of organization and operation of historical libraries, seen in the context of bibliological issues and related to general history and knowledge of art and culture. Completing the module will allow you to learn about the history of various types of libraries in Poland and around the world, including the characteristics of the principles of collecting, processing, storing, sharing and conservation of collections. Characteristic features of church libraries, rulers' libraries, and private, foundation and public libraries will be presented. The most important architectural styles and iconographic programs as well as library equipment will be discussed on the example of historical libraries in Europe. The student will acquire knowledge about historical bindings and other ownership marks, as well as learn the principles of researching institutions related to the history of libraries. As you expand your knowledge, you will deepen your terminology in the issues discussed. Will be able to critically evaluate the literature on the subject and identify cultural products.

Students have their knowledge about the functioning of historical book collections, their creators, and their users, as well as their role in the processes of communication and the creation of cultural heritage. They will learn from a chronological and problematic perspective the types of libraries, models of their creation and architectural styles used in the construction and equipment of libraries throughout history.
