Purpose and description of the content of education: | The aim of the module is to equip the student with the basics of semiotic analysis of culture and communication relativised to different types of media (this is achieved by introducing basic concepts and terms, familiarising the student with the main semiotic theories and research traditions). Within the module, the student subjects various fragments of mediatised reality to viewing and interpretation as sign systems (from the simplest sign varieties found in everyday life situations to complex varieties), while practising the ability to recognise the sign character of various messages, including the influence of the sign matter on the meaning conveyed. |
