Purpose and description of the content of education:
The module is designed to familiarize students with ways to effectively resolve conflicts through mediation and negotiation. The classes focus on three issues: conflict communication, mediation and negotiation. The class begins by learning about the sources of conflict and styles of dealing with conflict. The student then learns the basics of effective communication, including communication barriers and techniques for effective listening. The student learns how to overcome a communication impasse. The techniques presented are then transferred to two different situational contexts - negotiation and mediation. The student learns about negotiation techniques and how to seek a common interest between the parties. He learns the differences between compromise and cooperation. The class focuses on methods of reaching an agreement acceptable to all parties. The student also learns the essence of mediation, the principles of mediation characteristic of civil and administrative cases. During the class, the student has the opportunity to participate in a simulation of negotiation and mediation, thanks to which he/she acquires practical conflict management skills from the perspective of different roles in the conflict.
