Programme code: W2-S1BT19.2023
Semester:
  • winter semester 2024/2025
  • winter semester 2023/2024
Language of instruction: depending on the choice
Form of verification: exam
ECTS credits: 4
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The course provides basic knowledge for the field of general and molecular genetics. The basic genetic terms, principles of genetic inheritance, interactions between genes, the methods of genetic analysis together with principles of gene mapping are provided. The student learns about the structure of nucleic acids and the molecular basis of its inheritance in pro- and eukaryotes. The student becomes familiar with the molecular processes of gene expression, with special emphasis on transcription, transcript processing and the process of translation. The student learns to recognize and describe the basis of genetic diversity formation and to understand the molecular processes that lead to its occurrence. Practicals allows the student to analyze and interpret the basic genetic laws as well as to solve genetic problems with the use of animal and plant model organisms.
