Programme code: W2-S1BT19.2023
Semester:
  • winter semester 2025/2026
  • winter semester 2024/2025
Language of instruction: depending on the choice
Form of verification: exam
ECTS credits: 6
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The module introduces the student to the structure and function of the different prokaryotic cells. It introduces the metabolism of microorganisms and describes the ways in which microorganisms grow and respire. Familiarises the student with selected products of bacterial metabolism - toxins, antibiotics. Provides knowledge on the interactions of microorganisms with plants and animals and the influence of environmental factors on the growth and activity of microorganisms. Provides an understanding of the mechanisms that enable microorganisms to adapt to extreme environments. Characterises the microflora of soil, water and air as well as the human microbiome. The student learns methods for sterilising the media and equipment used in the microbiology laboratory. Student learns basic microbiological techniques and acquires the skills of preparing microbial preparations and using a microscope. The laboratory classes also teach the analysis and interpretation of the results obtained from the exercises carried out.
