|
Language of instruction: | depending on the choice |
Form of verification: | course work |
ECTS credits: | 4 |
Purpose and description of the content of education: | The module provides specialist knowledge in cell and tissue cultures of plants and animals; acquaints the student with the principles of working in sterile conditions as well as the requirements and specificity of the laboratory for in vitro cultures of plant and animal tissues. Particular emphasis is placed on mastering various methods of in vitro cultures of plant cells/tissues and learning about the possibilities of their practical use, including in plant breeding. In addition, the biology of animal cell cultures is presented, and the options for their use in medical biotechnology are discussed. In self-conducted experiments, the student acquires the skills to work in aseptic conditions, masters the technique of establishing, maintaining, monitoring, and analyzing plant cultures, collects empirical data and improves the ability to analyze and interpret the results of the conducted observations. |

Learning outcome of the module | Codes of the learning outcomes of the programme to which the learning outcome of the module is related [level of competence: scale 1-5] |
---|---|
The student classifies and describes the techniques of plant and animal cell and tissue cultures and defines their application in various fields of biotechnology and basic research. [1BT_23_26_1] |
1BT_W03 [5/5] |
Distinguishes types of in vitro cultures, characterize the basic properties of cells/tissues in vitro, classifies the basic morphogenetic processes occurring in the in vitro culture of plants, and define the culture conditions leading to a specific type of morphogenesis. [1BT_23_26_2] |
1BT_W03 [5/5] |
Applies basic techniques of in vitro cultures, determines the conditions enabling the growth and differentiation of cells in vitro in various plant species, and evaluates cultures of plant cells and tissues regarding the degree of differentiation, regenerative capacity, and somaclonal changes. [1BT_23_26_3] |
