Programme code: W2-S1BT19.2023

Module name: Genetic analysis
Module code: 1BT_23_00
Programme code: W2-S1BT19.2023
Semester:
  • summer semester 2024/2025
  • summer semester 2023/2024
Language of instruction: depending on the choice
Form of verification: exam
ECTS credits: 3
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The course provides knowledge about basic genetics and genetic analysis. Implementation of this course is based on knowledge acquired during the course Principles of genetics and constitutes its continuation. Basic genetic terms, laws of inheritance, methods of genetic analysis in plant and animal model species are presented, along with molecular mechanisms underlying processes of inheritance and gene expression. Methods of mutation induction and various mutagens are presented, and role of mutations in genetic analysis is described. Methods of differentiation and description of genetic diversity are presented together with their molecular mechanisms on the basis of individual organisms and populations. Practicals allow analysis and interpretation of genetic problems with the use of plant and animal model species, and during the genetic analysis statistical tests are applied.
