Module code: 1BL_23_15
Programme code: W2-S1BI19.2023
Semester:
  • summer semester 2024/2025
  • summer semester 2023/2024
Language of instruction: depending on the choice
Form of verification: course work
ECTS credits: 3
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The module Hydrobiology will enable the student to understand the phenomena and processes which occur in different types of aquatic ecosystems, increase knowledge about the diversity of aquatic organisms, their environmental and habitat preferences, factors affecting their diversity. It will indicate direct and indirect causes of the degradation of aquatic environments. The recommended program issues allow to learn the basic ecology of aquatic environments. The acquired knowledge and skills will contribute to the understanding of the need to protect water ecosystems.
List of modules that must be completed before starting this module (if necessary): not applicable
Learning outcome of the module Codes of the learning outcomes of the programme to which the learning outcome of the module is related [level of competence: scale 1-5]
Evaluates environmental factors affecting the diversity of aquatic organisms. Analyzes threats to freshwater environments, justifies the need to protect water against degradation, presents the aims and methods of recultivation of water reservoirs and restoration of rivers. [K01]
1BL_K02 [5/5] 1BL_K04 [5/5]
Student presents the physical and chemical properties of the water, recognizes the main ecological groups of aquatic organisms, explains their importance in the cntext of the functioning of aquatic ecosystems. Understands the relationship between organisms and the aquatic environment. Identifies aquatic organisms from different ecological formations. It presents the trophic organization of freshwater biocoenoses and can perform simple physical and chemical measurements of water in the laboratory as well as interprets the obtained results. [U01]
1BL_U04 [5/5] 1BL_U10 [5/5] 1BL_U11 [5/5] 1BL_U12 [5/5]
Knowledge of the functioning of the aquatic environment in the context of the structure and function as well as the taxonomic position of aquatic organisms. Describes and explains the effects of functioning of aquatic ecosystems. Acts in accordance with the rules of occupational health and safety in the laboratory. [W01]
