Purpose and description of the content of education: | The module aims for students to acquire knowledge of knowledge organization systems (SOWs). As part of the module, students become familiar with the different ways of organizing knowledge in SOWs and learn about the different types of these systems. They also acquire skills in analyzing systems' functioning, design, and evaluation. |

Learning outcome of the module | Codes of the learning outcomes of the programme to which the learning outcome of the module is related [level of competence: scale 1-5] |
---|---|
The student has a structured knowledge of knowledge organization systems (SOW). They know the methods of representation, organization, and sharing of knowledge in these systems. [SOW03_1] |
K_W05 [4/5] |
The student can fundamentally analyze the functioning and evaluation of existing SOWs. They can interpret the processes of different types of systems (classification schemes, categorization systems, taxonomies) and their impact on information services. [SOW03_2] |
K_U05 [3/5] |
The student can design a simple knowledge organization system (including: developing a dictionary fragment, mapping semantic relations, developing indexing instructions, and discussing the range of applications and pragmatics. [SOW03_3] |
K_U05 [4/5] |
The student is aware of the dynamics of change in the SOW and its impact on the information environment. Is open to new ideas and technologies, including SOW used in the semantic web project. [SOW03_4] |
