Description: | The aim of the course is to deepen students` knowledge as far as creating academic texts is concerned, especially to prepare students to write the dissertation. Among other issues students learn about various sources, the way they are cited and how to write bibliographical description. Knowledge about general rules of conducting scientific research is expanded, stylistic and language skills are improved. Students get acquainted with the structure of a short article and requirements related to the layout and edition of MA thesis. Selected research tools are discussed. The following issues are covered in the classroom:
1. Research ethics, spreading the results – continuation
2. Rules for conducting scientific research – continuation
3. Formulating research hypothesis, collecting and analysing data, selected research tools, formulating conclusions
4. Structure of thesis
5. Structure of a short article ( IMRD format)
6. Writing selected types of academic essays, quoting sources
7. Stylistics of academic text – stylistic exercises
8. Cohesion of text – exercises |
